Santiago de Chile

Santiago (official Spanish name Santiago de Chile) is the most populated and the capital city of Chile.

In Santiago you can still notice its historic colonial roots in its small houses, but the modern city centre totally differs from it: 10 floors buildings and the many residential areas give Santiago the image of a modern metroplitan capital city.

The area where Santiago is located has a tipical mediterranean climate, with winter showers and hot, dry summer. The official language is Spanish, but because of the importance tourism has acquired in the last decade, the mayority of people currently speak English, too.

A holiday in Santiago del Chile could be very expensive, because of the cost of the air ticket and because of the higher cost of living in Santiago in comparison to other Chilean cities. To this you have to add that it’s quite impossible to find an accomodation with accecible costs in the city centre.

Apart from this, Santiago offers you many things to do and to visit: the Plaza de Armas, La Chascona (Pablo Neruda's Home), San Cristobal Hill (Cerro San Cristobal) - with its zoo and win museum - the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art and the Central Market (Mercado Central), where is to buy seafood in a totally pitoresque atmosphere and unique architecture.
